What is Alabama Caregiver Connect?
Alabama Caregiver Connect was created by researchers, providers, and caregivers, to help Alabama caregivers get information they need about dementia and caregiving. Through our work, caregivers across the state tell us:
- They need more support.
- They need information about dementia and caregiving.
- They want to know what services and supports are available and how to access them.
- Using the internet to find what they need is overwhelming – they want a resource that is more focused on their needs.
In many cases, information and support are available, but caregivers don’t know about it. The goal of Caregiver Connect is to provide a hub where caregivers can get information that they tell us they need.

About Alabama Caregiver Connect
Alabama Caregiver Connect is an initiative started by Dr. Nicole Ruggiano, a Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Alabama. She is also an affiliated faculty member with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
The goal of Alabama Caregiver Connect is to make research findings about dementia and caregiving available and understandable to those who would benefit from them the most. The content on this website is based on what caregivers report they want to learn more about. It’s also informed by researchers, like Dr. Ruggiano, who have personal experience with dementia and caregiving. To learn more about her work, click here.
