“Our research group was honored to once again serve as judges at the UAB-CORD Regional Science and Engineering Fair 2025. Engaging with talented middle and high school students, we were inspired by the creativity, curiosity, and scientific rigor reflected in their projects. It was a privilege to help recognize and encourage the next generation of innovators. We sincerely thank the organizers for this meaningful opportunity and applaud all participants for their exceptional efforts. We look forward to continuing our role in empowering young minds in science and engineering.”

“Continuing our commitment to STEM education and mentorship, our research group actively participated in the UA STEM Showcase 2025, guiding and mentoring middle school students in the Tuscaloosa area as they developed their science fair projects. Through hands-on support and thoughtful discussions, we helped these young minds refine their ideas, strengthen their scientific approaches, and gain confidence in their work. Culminating in an exciting final event, we had the privilege of serving as judges, evaluating their innovative projects and celebrating their achievements. We are inspired by their curiosity and dedication and we remain devoted to fostering the next generation of scientists and engineers. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Center for Community-Based Partnerships and commend all participants for their hard work and enthusiasm.”

“Outreach Activities in BHM High Schools : “Our team had several opportunities to visit High Schools in Birmingham, Alabama to assist students with their science fair projects. It was an amazing experience to see so many young, curious minds eager to learn and explore the world of science. During our visits, we worked closely with the students to provide guidance, advice, and hands-on support as they developed their projects. We were impressed by the student’s enthusiasm and creativity, and we were thrilled to be able to contribute to their learning and growth. Our outreach program aims to inspire and encourage young people to pursue their passions and explore the world around them. We believe that by supporting students in their academic pursuits, we can help to build a stronger and more innovative scientific community. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with many students in Birmingham high schools, and we look forward to continuing to support and inspire the next generation of scientists, innovators, and leaders.”

“UAB CORD Summer Research Program: “Our research group is proud to have supported the research efforts of the undergraduate student Julia Keifer for the UAB CORD (Center for Community Outreach and Development) Summer Research Program. As a highly motivated and passionate student, Julia has already shown a great interest in research, and we are excited to see her develop her skills and knowledge even further through this program. During her time with our research group in the summer of 2022, Julia had the opportunity to work closely with our graduate/postdoctoral researchers and gain valuable hands-on experience in heme/oxygen model chemistry. Julia’s research efforts in the summer of 2022 were recognized with the “promising scientist” award at the UAB summer research award reception organized by UAB CORD. Our team will continue to provide her with the mentorship and guidance she needs as she conducts her research project in the future, especially in mastering critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills. We are confident that Julia will make a significant contribution to our ongoing research efforts and gain valuable insights into the research process. We are committed to supporting her every step of the way and look forward to seeing the progress she will make throughout the program.”
