About
Soledad Sanchez Valdez is a scenic designer, visual artist, and educator. Her designs for the stage seek to integrate space, form, and color within the social meanings of performance arts production.
She has conducted collaborative design workshops and participated in numerous panel discussions about interdisciplinary work in the US, Canada, and Czech Republic. Her project Mistura: A Magic Door, in collaboration with designers from the United States and Hong Kong, proposes elevating scenic, sound, and lighting design as mediums of storytelling themselves. Soledad was a member of the curatorial team for the United States National Exhibition at the 15th edition of the Prague Quadrennial of design in 2023.
She is a member of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) and the International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT) and a Research Fellow from the University of Alabama Collaborative Arts Initiative (CARI).
