Multiscale multiphysics modeling, incorporating coupled microscale models, macro-homogeneous models, and multiscale multidomain models are key to developing a rational design approach to get the most out of 3D battery architectures. The microscale models are used to incorporate the effect of electrode microstructures in the models. The effective properties and degradation equation obtained using the microscale models will be provided as inputs to macro-homogeneous model. The macro-homogeneous model will predict the cell level behavior. The macro-homogeneous model will be coupled with multiscale multidomain model to predict battery-scale performance characteristics. The heat generation calculated by the macro-homogeneous model will be used by the multiscale multidomain model to predict temperature field, which will be given as an input to the macro-homogeneous model for a full two-way coupling between these two models.
