Established in 2020, the University of Alabama’s Southern Behavioral Health and Law Initiative (SBHLI), formerly known as the Criminal Justice and Behavioral Health Initiative, brings together individuals interested in law, psychology, criminology, mental health, substance use, and public safety.

Co-founded by Drs. Jennifer Cox and Lauren Kois, this multidisciplinary initiative includes researchers and practitioners from multiple UA colleges and the broader Tuscaloosa community.

SBHLI members collaborate in multiple capacities including research, grant applications, program implementation, education, and training.
