Each PROMISE Scholar, will receive full tuition support and a stipend. Additionally scholars receive the following benefits: 

  • Advising: Each PROMISE scholar will be assigned a faculty academic advisor to provide academic support and counseling throughout the course of the academic program to ensure successful completion of the master’s program.
  • Mentorship: PROMISE scholars will be paired with a selected expert mentor to help them build the necessary competencies to deliver evidence-based services during their field experience and to provide guidance in their academic journey and career preparation as school-based mental health providers.
  • Upon graduation, PROMISE project scholars will receive a Master of Arts in School Counseling or a Master of Social Work

  • Complete the respective Master’s Program as Stipulated in Program of Study as a full time student
  • Complete 700 hours (SC) and 1000 hours (SW) of field experience in a high-needs school district in Tuscaloosa City Schools
  • Take an Interdisciplinary Course  
  • Complete a Capstone Project that involves providing mental health training to stakeholders
  • Undertake at least one professional development activity while in the program
  • Must work as a school based mental health provider in a qualifying school for two-years for every 1 year of funding received  
  • Complete all service obligations must be completed within 7 years of the completion of the PROJECT PROMISE program
  • Any amounts left owing on the account after that date will be repaid in cash.  

​A) Admission into The University of Alabama’s Graduate School

  • Apply and be accepted into the Masters of Arts in School Counseling or Masters of Social Work.

B) Apply and receive acceptance into the Project PROMISE Scholar Program​​.
