This five-year federally-funded initiative aims to train and place 40 diverse masters-trained school-based mental health practitioners, specifically school counselors and social workers, to serve K-12 students in high-needs school districts.
The overarching mission of Project PROMISE centers around enhancing the capabilities of high-needs school districts to offer school-based mental health services. This enhancement is facilitated through an interdisciplinary approach, harmonizing the nationally accredited programs offered at The University of Alabama. The School of Social Work, accredited by CSWE, and the College of Education’s School Counseling Program, accredited by CACREP, collaborate seamlessly to amplify the potential of the education system.
Among the benefits to project scholars include full tuition support and stipend in addition to academic advising to ensure that scholars complete their program of study, including field experience at a high-needs school within the Tuscaloosa City System in a timely manner. See the Project Description and Scholarship & Eligibility for more information.
With a strong commitment to promoting diversity in school-based mental health professionals serving K-12 students within high-needs educational environments, Project PROMISE is proud to present a transformative one-week Summer Institute hosted at The University of Alabama. This institute serves as a focal point for holistic professional development, embracing the multidimensional aspects of this critical field.
