New Publication, May 2024

Using rapid reaction kinetics, Rajleen Gogar showed evidence for a half-sites mechanism of SufS that is activated by SufE. A nice combination of both rapid-chemical quench and stopped-flow spectroscopy to characterize a challenging enzyme system.

Dr. Rajleen K. Gogar Receives Her Ph.D. May 2024

Rajleen’s dissertation focused on characterizing structure-function relationships in the SufS/SufE cysteine desulfurase system from E. coli. Following graduation, Rajleen is off to Houston, TX to start her new job at Sino Biological.

Dr. Patrick Frantom promoted to Professor, April 2024

Thank you to all of our colleagues and collaborators for their support. An especially big thank you to all the students past and present who did the hard work of carrying out all of the experiments that contributed to the success of the Frantom lab.

Frantom Lab Graduate Student, Nidhi Chikkara wins Outstanding Second-Year Graduate Student Award, April 2024

Congratulations to Nidhi! She was selected for this award in part for her great academic performance and excellent research progress. Nidhi will be co-first author on an upcoming publication investigating interactions between SufS and SufE in E. coli.

Frantom Lab Members at ASBMB, March 2024

UA was well represented with members of the Frantom, Dunkle, and Higgins groups in attendance! Both Rajleen Gogar and Dr. Frantom gave posters on enzymes from the SUF Fe-S cluster assembly pathway.

Dr. Ramesh Karki, December 2023 Ph. D. Graduate

Ramesh’s dissertation focused on characterizing the role of protein dynamics in the retaining, GT-B glycosyltransferase MshA. He is headed off to start a postdoctoral position with Dr. Sheng Pan at The University of Texas Health Science Center Houston.
