Instructions for Technics Hummer Sputter Coater

Set controls as follows:
Main power switch: OFF
Hi voltage switch: OFF
Voltage control: 0
Process Control: auto or manual
Vent valve: closed
Pressure control: decrease
Mode selector: plate/DC

• Open chamber by pushing slightly backward on glass cylinder to break suction at bottom and lifting glass cylinder.
• Place cylinder upside down while holding top.
• Place specimens on pedestal.
• Replace glass cylinder and top plate.
• Turn on main power switch.
• Allow to pump down until vacuum reaches 20 millitorr or less (5-20 min when first turned on; 5-10 min thereafter).
• Increase pressure control until vacuum reads 80-100 millitorr.
• Maintain vacuum at 80-100 millitorr throughout coating process by adjusting pressure control.
• If in auto, set timer to desired number of minutes by turning past 3 and then to desired position.
• If in manual, set timer for desired time. Turn on hi voltage switch.
• Turn volts control to obtain reading of 15 milliamperes.
• When time has elapsed, turn volts knob to 0.
• Turn hi voltage switch to off.
• Turn pressure control to decrease.
• Turn main power switch to off.
• Turn vent valve to atm. Lift glass cylinder and top plate as before and remove specimen.
• Replace glass cylinder and top plate.
