THE CARRIE PROJECT

Creating a meaningful learning experience in the classroom requires creativity, commitment, and courage.  This project focuses on the “Carrie Project,” a unique accelerated learning opportunity that lasted 20 days during the first part of the fall 2013 semester.  Apparel design students were asked the simple question:

“What if, Carrie Bradshaw, the main character from Sex and the City, was an undergraduate student at The University of Alabama?”

Working as a team, they quickly developed a storyline, recruited local retailers, and scouted locations for the photoshoots. Students were required to actively engage in the learning process using higher-order thinking skills as well as to talk, write, relate, and apply their knowledge in a very fast-passed creative environment. The project culminated in the creation of a print catalog featuring the storyline in photos and large format posters.
