The quantum mechanic’s guide to spacetime

Public talk on how Quantum mechanics in the lab can explain the origin of space and time.
Presented on the occasion of Kaminski’s appointment as Fellow of the Siebold-Collegium Institute for Advanced Studies (SCIAS) of the University of Würzburg.
Information society at a science rave
Public talk about a physics-music collaboration with Belgian mathematician and electronic music artist Dr. Valery Vermeulen. Two pieces were shown during this presentation:

Talk presented at “A Celebration of Cultural Diversity Through the Arts”, November 20th, 2019, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa (organized and supported by the College of Arts & Sciences)
“Through dance, music and visual arts come experience and learn about the relevance of the arts in various cultures as we Celebrate Cultural Diversity through the Arts featuring performances by students, faculty and family members at The University of Alabama. Some of the cultures represented include: India, Nepal, Trinidad, Germany and the United States.“
Neutron Stars & Quantum Mechanic Jet Fuel
Public Night Talk, October 21, 2015, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa
Arts-science project
Collaboration with mathematician and electronic music artist Dr. Valery Vermeulen (Belgium). Black hole data from numerical calculations is turned into sounds / electronic music through sonification. Sonification is a technique developed since the 1990s, which turns information into sounds. This technique is described in the Sonification Handbook. Dr. Vermeulen has applied sonification to our numerical data among other data. Our article about this data (open access) was published in the Journal of High Energy Physics. The article presents our numerical calculations simulating plasma driven far away from equilibrium as it occurs in e.g. heavy ion collision experiments. In particular, we calculate the correlations between different points in the plasma. See also the public talk I gave on the subject and the example files above.
Connecting the world-wide research community online

Beginning with the Corona Pandemic, we have started a world-wide online seminar series about our research area “Applied Holography”. We invite one speaker per week on Zoom, attendees can ask questions and discuss. A discussion board allows continued discussions. All talks are archived and accessible on the website.
Outreach activities

Conducting experiments and having fun together with students and community members at the Arts & Sciences tent. The photos are from the homecoming weekends 2016 and 2017.
