Virtual Reality for Behavioral Health Study

This study looks at how people with opioid use problems feel about receiving their counseling session via virtual reality. The study will also see if the counseling sessions improve depression, stress and anxiety.

How It Works

Participants will attend eight sessions of counseling via virtual reality. This means that participants will be in a different room from the counselor. Participants will be required to wear a virtual reality headset that will allow you to see your counselor during the session.

What You Will Do

Participants will be given an orientation session prior to the start of the therapy sessions that way you are familiar with how the equipment works. A member of the research team will be there to answer any questions you may have related to the equipment and the process of participating in the counseling sessions.

  • Participate in individual counseling sessions held for one hour to 90 minutes once a week for 8 weeks
  • Complete questionnaires at the beginning and at the end of the study
  • Participate in an exit interview at the end of the study, which will last about 30 minutes

Compensation

  • Receive $10 for transportation assistance for every session you attend
  • Receive $40 for each time you complete the questionnaires and the exit interview
