
Program Information
- Legacy is a free program that prepares Black young women to take the Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles (CSP) course.
- AP CSP is offered as a year-long course that can be counted as a math elective toward graduation in Alabama.
Who can participate in Legacy?
- Any Black young woman currently in a public high school in the state of Alabama is eligible to participate in Legacy.
- Students must be planning to take AP CSP in the 2023-2024 academic year.
What will Legacy students do?
- Students will attend two residential workshops:
- Workshop 1 (June 12-16, 2023) – on campus at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa; arrive on June 11 for checkin
(you must live in the dorms all week and attend all sessions, no excused absences) - Workshop 2 (July 24-26, 2023) – on campus at Tuskegee University; arrive on July 23 for checkin

- Workshop 1 (June 12-16, 2023) – on campus at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa; arrive on June 11 for checkin
- The Summer 2023 workshops will be in person at two college campuses. Students will live in university dormitories with chaperones from each university.
- Daily activities will include structured sessions, team work, project development, mentoring, and cultural activities.
- Students will continue to receive mentoring through the Academic year as they complete the AP CSP course.
Students who complete all program activities will receive a stipend of up to $2,000.
