Dr. Laurie J. Bonnici

Getting to Know Me

Dr. Bonnici is Associate Professor in the College of Communication & Information Sciences, School of Library and Information Studies.  She holds degrees in Spanish and linguistics, library science, and earned her Ph.D. in Information Science at Florida State University. Her research addresses information seeking in second-hand knowledge contexts, specifically  social media platforms, for people in crisis conditions. She has also written on information retrieval in the context of rewilded information which examines information exchange in everyday human interactions based in natural language analysis. She teaches courses in information science, information systems, sociotechnical aspects of cybersecurity, AI, data justice, and web development applications. Riding bicycles, kayaking, and stained glass-making are passions contributing to work-life balance.


Prior to joining the faculty in 2007, Dr. Bonnici served as an assistant professor at Drexel University where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in information management and systems. She has worked in higher education as a network administrator, systems, librarian and the corporate world as a technology trainer.

Dr. Bonnici consults with organizations in the for-profit and non-profit sectors on change management and technology accessibility for people with disabilities (PWD). She also works with libraries on strategic planning, specifically in systems and social media strategy.

Dr. Bonnici has served two terms on the Board of Directors for the Association for Library & Information Science Education. She is an active member of The Document Academy.
