

Clinical Experience
Dr. Wilson has extensive experience caring for the people of West Alabama as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), in not only the family practice setting but in obesity management and rehabilitation services. Currently, she practices at NorthRiver Primary Care where she conducts annual wellness exams. Prior to becoming a FNP in 2007, she spent 12 years as a Maternal-Newborn nurse. Dr. Wilson is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a FNP. Dr. Wilson is the recipient of the 2023 Outstanding Faculty Practice Award, 2023 Excellence in Academic Advising and Lucille Stewart Beeson Nursing Award for Most Outstanding Post-Masters student at Samford University (2018).
Educational Background
Dr. Wilson graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama where she was named the Most Outstanding Senior. In 2007, she completed the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and received a Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. In 2019, she received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Advance Practice with an Education Concentration from Samford University. Currently, Dr. Wilson is pursuing her certification as a Certified Nurse Educator.
Teaching Practice
Dr. Kimberly Wilson is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Capstone College of Nursing. Dr. Wilson’s areas of teaching responsibility include graduate level courses. She has experience teaching in Fundamentals of Nursing, Professional Nursing Practice: Childbearing Families, Family Nurse Practitioner Roles and Issues, Advanced Pathophysiology, Advanced Health Assessment, Advanced Pharmacology and Family Nurse Practitioner Clinical Courses. She serves as an academic advisor to numerous DNP students.
Service Practice
Dr. Wilson is involved in several professional organizations. She maintains memberships in the American Nurses Association, the Alabama State Nursing Association, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Alabama Alliance of Nurse Practitioner, the West Alabama Nurse Practitioner Association, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Dr. Wilson serves on multiple committees within the Capstone College of Nursing and University of Alabama. She has consistently precepted and mentored both nurse practitioner students and nursing students over the course of her career.
Research Practice
Dr. Wilson’s clinical and academic areas of interest include health promotion and wellness, women’s health, clinical practice, nursing education and professional development. She has a particular interest in developing and utilizing innovative teaching strategies in the online classroom. Dr. Wilson has published manuscripts on simulation best practices, obesity management and the flipped classroom approach, among others.
