

Principle Investigator

Katie Garrison is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology. She received her PhD in social and personality psychology from Texas A&M University in 2020. Katie is interested in experimental psychology in general, and particularly the interplay of emotion, cognition, and motivation in self-control.

Graduate Students

Justin Wahlers is a fifth-year graduate student in the social-experimental psychology program. Originally from North Carolina, Justin received his bachelor’s degree in psychology and communication studies from UNC-Chapel Hill. He is interested in studying how people regulate their emotions and make decisions in stressful situations.

Karen Akin is a fourth-year doctoral student in the social-experimental psychology program. She received her BA and MS degree from the University of Baltimore. Karen’s research interests include broad topics within social cognition and social neuroscience involving differences in self-other perceptions and self-regulation.

Liz Ennis Gremillion is a third-year doctoral student in the social experimental psychology program. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ohio Christian University. Liz is interested in studying how emotion regulation impacts cognitive processes such as memory.

Ava Behrouzi is a third-year doctoral student in the developmental-experimental psychology program. She received her B.A. in psychology from the University of Isfahan in Iran and later completed her M.A. in clinical child and adolescent psychology at Tabriz University, Iran. Ava is interested in studying how different emotions impact cognitive functions, especially impulsive and risky decision-making.
