Some Current Research Projects
Metamorphic P-T-t Paths. Quantitative P-T-t paths provide critical information for resolving problems in tectonics. Some of the most useful paths are constructed with forward thermodynamic models (e.g., THERMOCALC, THERIAK-DOMINO, and Perplex) combined with high precision geochronology. Because ages must be clearly linked to estimates for pressure and temperature, garnet geochronology is a proven technique that I have utilized widely in my studies. I have used this combination of THERMOCALC and/or DOMINO phase diagram sections with Sm-Nd garnet geochronology to better understand the metamorphism and tectonics in the Appalachians of New England, the Cascade Range of Washington state, the Coast Mountains of southeastern Alaska and British Columbia, Fiordland New Zealand, and the southern Appalachians in Alabama.Granulite Facies Metamorphism
