WHAT IS THE H.O.P.E. PROJECT?
The H.O.P.E. (Health Opportunity Passion Empowerment) Project, funded by the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA), aims to address the shortage of behavioral health services for youth in rural Alabama. It focuses on providing evidence-based, strength-based, and trauma-informed behavioral health and substance use services across prevention, treatment, and recovery for children and adolescents in Pickens County and surrounding areas.
WHO DOES THE H.O.P.E. PROJECT SERVE?
The project primarily serves children and adolescents aged 5-17 in rural West Alabama counties, starting with Pickens County. Plans are in place to expand these services to surrounding areas.
WHAT TYPES OF SERVICES DOES THE H.O.P.E. PROJECT OFFER?
The H.O.P.E. Project offers a continuum of care that includes prevention, treatment, and recovery services. This includes online mental health awareness training, ACEs trauma and substance use training, evidence-based therapies and teletherapy best practices training, FAST intervention team training, and recovery peer support specialist mentorship.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED WITH THE H.O.P.E. PROJECT?
There are various ways to get involved, including participating in training modules, volunteering for the project, or if you are a student, exploring MSW and MFT intern opportunities
HOW CAN I GET HELP FROM THE H.O.P.E. PROJECT FOR MY CHILD?
Parents can express interest in the project’s services by contacting the project team via email at hopeproject@ua.edu or by phone. Parental consent will be obtained before any services are provided to children
WHO LEADS THE H.O.P.E. PROJECT?
The project is led by a team of experienced professionals from the University of Alabama, including Dr. Deborah Casper (Program Director), Dr. Tricia Witte (Child and Adolescent Substance Use Expert), and others, each contributing their expertise to ensure the success of the project
WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THE H.O.P.E. PROJECT?
The goal is to establish new behavioral health services for youth, implement comprehensive training for professionals, build a community of partners for an accessible continuum of care, and ultimately improve behavioral health outcomes for children, adolescents, and their families in targeted rural areas
