About
The HEAL-Lab stands for the Health Equity Action implementation science Lab. Housed within The University of Alabama School of Social Work, The HEAL-Lab was established by and is led by Dr. Karen Johnson, Associate Professor and a passionate advocate for health equity, community engaged research, implementation science, and organizational science, the lab is where research meets real-world solutions, empowering communities to overcome complex health challenges.

Driven by a commitment to implementation science, The HEAL-Lab addresses some of the most pressing health disparities with a focus on action. We believe that simply understanding the problems is not enough; we must actively develop and implement culturally responsive interventions that work in the communities we serve.

At The HEAL-Lab, we believe in the transformative power of collaboration. We partner with community organizations, policymakers, practitioners, and individuals affected by health disparities to co-create meaningful solutions.
Under Dr. Johnson’s leadership, The HEAL Lab continues to push boundaries, forging the path towards a future where health equity is not just a dream, but a tangible reality for all. Together, let’s turn health equity from aspiration to reality, one community at a time.
