Seeking PhD Students for high-speed aerodynamics and unsteady aerodynamics research
We are seeking motivated PhD applicants who are interested in experimental aerodynamics. There is an opportunity in high-speed aerodynamics. This research aims to understand the effects of surface curvature on 3D shock- wave/boundary-layer interaction. Another opportunity is in unsteady aerodynamics with particular focus on understanding the flow physics of the interaction of large-scale vortices with an oscillating wing experiencing 3D dynamic stall.
Applicants must have passion about experimental fluid/aerodynamics and strong academic preparation.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Computer programming skills
- Effective written and oral communication skills
Desired Skills
- Prior experience in experimental fluid mechanics research
- Familiarity with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements
Support is available starting Fall 2026. Candidates should contact me (rwahidi@ua.edu) with a summary of their background and skills, CV, and sample publications/posters (if any).
