Director’s Message

Welcome to the Center for Convergent Bioscience and Medicine (CCBM).
It’s a pleasure and honor for me, as a University Distinguished Research Professor, to serve as the founding director of the Center for Convergent Bioscience and Medicine (CCBM) at The University of Alabama.
CCBM is a unique transdisciplinary research center devoted to conducting, supporting, and encouraging bioscience and medicine. The 21st century healthcare challenges demand horizontal innovation to bridge the gap. To do that, CCBM brings together faculty leaders in applied mathematics, artificial intelligence, biochemistry, biological sciences, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, drug delivery, machine learning, neuroscience, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, polymer chemistry, psychology, and social behavior. Our research is notable for its breadth of scale: from new drug-discovery to drug-repurposing aided by novel drug delivery strategies leading to therapies for immuno-inflammatory diseases. CCBM is also committed to providing a unique environment to train the next generation of scientists within a multi-disciplinary setting to meet the changing paradigms in an evolving pharmaceutical industry.
CCBM is located on the second floor of the AIME building. The laboratories are spread in an area of over 8000 sq.ft. and are equipped with world class equipment and facilities such as a bioanalytical and polymer suites, molecular biology and experimental therapeutics suites, and histology suite. With divergent research capabilities and state-of-the-art facilities, CCBM stands ready to solve difficult drug discovery and development problems, thereby helping industry and academia alike.
I invite you to discover all we have to offer.
