Many of these courses formed the backbone of the Institute of Museum and Library Services Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program’s grant entitled “Training of Community-Embedded Social Justice Archivists (SJ4A)” led by Drs. Bharat Mehra and Robert Riter. The SJ4A focused on training a cohort of twelve Black, Indigenous, and person of color (BIPOC) paraprofessionals (extended to 17) working in community-based archives settings to earn an MLIS in archival studies concentration with social justice intersections (the grant began Fall 2022 and will end June 2025). Visit the SJ4A website to explore the students’ community-based course projects and other achievements at URL: https://sites.ua.edu/socialjusticearchivists-sj4a/ .
