Congratulations from the Black Faculty and Staff Association on the remarkable achievement of graduating from The University of Alabama!

The BFSA’s Nyansapo Kente Robing Ceremony, established in Summer 2016, celebrates and promotes the achievements of our undergraduate and graduate students of color. “Nyansapo” is a Ghanaian symbol meaning intelligence, ingenuity, and patience, while Kente is a ceremonial cloth reserved for significant occasions like this. The ceremony provides our community a meaningful opportunity to honor the accomplishments of these graduates.

Event Information:

  • Registration opens at 3:30 p.m. and closes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Bryant Conference Center. Guests are welcome to join for photos and a UA Supe Store Exhibit.
  • UA Supe Store will be onsite, offering UA products and graduation regalia. The BFSA Kente Stole and Black Excellence Cord are available for purchase online or onsite at the UA Student Center location.
  • Regalia Requirements: Graduates should arrive in full regalia (robe, stole, cords). Special guests should dress in business attire.
  • Processional Line-Up: Graduates will assemble in the lobby at 4:50 p.m. on the left side.

Kente Ceremony Details

When called to the stage, graduates will line up on the left, and their special guests on the right:

  • Graduates and their guests will meet at the center, where guests will robe graduates in the Kente cloth.
  • Both will exit the stage together and return to their seats.
  • Graduates without a “special guest” are invited to be robed by a BFSA faculty or staff member.

On behalf of the BFSA Executive Board and membership, we honor our graduates and look forward to celebrating with you on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. CST.
