Principle Investigator
Katherine L. Chiou, PhD
I am an anthropological archaeologist and paleoethnobotanist interested in foodways in the past and present, Andean archaeology, household archaeology, plant domestication, GIS and data visualization, and ethics in archaeological practice. I received my BA from New York University and my MA and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley and have been a faculty member in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Alabama since 2017. I am a recipient of the Society for American Archaeology’s Dissertation Award (2018) as well as the National Alumni Association’s Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award (2021). I am a proponent of ethics training for students of archaeology and have been involved with organizing the Society for American Archaeology’s Ethics Bowl competition (since 2017) as well as coaching the University of Alabama Ethics Bowl team (since 2019).
