Dr. Aleksandra Kristo


Bio

Aleksandra S. Kristo is an Assistant Professor of Nutrition in the Department of Human Nutrition, Hospitality and Sport Management, at the University of Alabama.

Dr. Kristo received her BSc in Dietetics and Nutritional Science from Harokopio University in 2004, MSc in Food Science and Human Nutrition, and Ph.D. in Food and Nutrition Sciences from the University of Maine in 2008 and 2012, respectively, then completed Postdoctoral Training in the Cardiovascular Nutrition Laboratory at Tufts University, JM USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging in 2013. Before joining the University of Alabama in 2025 she served as faculty at Istanbul Yeni Yuzyil University, and California Polytechnic State University.

She has conducted research in nutritional sciences through a cardiometabolic health approach with rodent and cell models, as well as humans, including vulnerable and underserved populations.

Dr. Kristo’s research interests include personalized nutrition and lifestyle interventions for cardiovascular and metabolic health optimization, and nutritional status and education in youth and adulthood in relation to chronic disease risk.
