µNet Deployment Camp 2025
What is the Deployment Camp? It is a four-day training program as a part of an NSF infrastructure project at the University of Alabama, µNet: Infrastructure to Advance Mobile Underwater Wireless Networking Research. Our main asset is a lake testbed, which features two EcoMapper autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) equipped with acoustic modems. We have been using the testbed for mobile acoustic transmission and communication experiments in a local lake. The deployment camp allows students to participate in field operations with the lake testbed. Students will get hands-on experiences with underwater acoustic communications, acoustic modems, AUVs, and environmental/acoustic sensors.
Camp dates:
- Round 1: July 22 to 25, 2024
- Round 2: May 12 to 14, 2025
- Round 3: Oct 2025 (TBA)
These events will be held at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.
The main activities include:
- Tutorials on underwater acoustic communications, Unetstack-MOOS IvP integration, acoustic sampling & measurements, etc.
- Field deployment of acoustically equipped autonomous underwater vehicles in a local lake.
- Visualization for environmental, acoustic, and navigational measurements.
- Communication practices with field measurements.
- Full-time undergraduate/graduate students with good academic standing from a university or institution within the United States.
Who is eligible?
- Full-time undergraduate/graduate students with good academic standing from a university or institution within the United States.
