For Prospective Graduate Students

About working with Dr. Glenn
I plan to accept a graduate student for Fall 2025. I am in the Developmental Psychology program and strongly prefer to take students in that program. Although I may review a few applications to the Clinical program, it is less likely that I could accept a student in Clinical. Because I do not have clinical training, incoming clinical students would be assigned to a clinical faculty member as their clinical mentor in order to have someone to consult with on all things clinical (e.g., applying to internship).
Potential Research
I am open to taking students who are interested in any type of research focused on disruptive behavior problems in youth and antisocial behavior in adults. I am particularly interested in approaches to reducing inequality in youth outcomes, especially on the basis of race, ethnicity, or economic standing. I am also interested in how untreated ADHD may contribute to the development of behavior problems. I typically work with students to develop projects based on their own interests, with antisocial behavior as the overarching topic.
I have a lab set up for assaying hormone samples (cortisol, testosterone, alpha-amylase), so that is an option for students interested in biological research. I am not currently conducting any brain imaging research, but UA recently installed an MRI scanner so that may be an option in collaboration with other faculty. There is also a wealth of existing data from projects conducted in the Center for Youth Development and Intervention related to the Coping Power preventive intervention for middle school aged youth. This includes some physiological data.
Requirements
I encourage students to apply who have been involved in research and know that they love it! Prior research experience in my areas of interest is not required. I am looking for students who are highly motivated, strong writers, and are interested in a career in research (either academic or other research institutes).
Mentoring Philosophy
The University of Alabama welcomes students, faculty and staff regardless of their cultural differences, beliefs, values, ethnicity, race, age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disabilities, or religion. I (Dr. Glenn) am committed to providing opportunities for all qualified individuals, regardless of background, to access this institution, connect with others, and take advantage of the opportunities to achieve personal and professional success afforded by UA’s mission of teaching, research and service. I will act to support equal opportunity, foster collaboration, and assist all students who may face challenges in accessing education and educational achievement. I am invested in broadening representation in psychology, and seeking out ways to correct historical opportunity imbalances. I also try my best to respect individual needs, styles, and career goals, and to mentor accordingly.
